Gio Ponti : Table "Arlecchino"
The "Arlecchino" coffee table was first presented in 1954 by Gio Ponti in New York in the Altamira company's newly opened showroom.
The company was created under the artistic direction of Gio Ponti to exhibit furnishing objects and accessories representative of Italian production.
The prototype was created by Giordano Chiesa in painted metal and glass (reference exhibition catalogue Gio Ponti MAD, Paris, 2018).
It was exhibited at other events including the 11th Milan Triennial in 1957 (ref: L. Falconi, Gio Ponti 1920 - 1976, Milano, 2004). But most importantly, it was part of Gio Ponti's personal furnishings in his last home: the penthouse of the Via Dezza building built in Milan and decorated entirely by himself. This flat, where he lived from 1957 onwards, can be considered his interior design masterpiece in terms of both architecture and decorative arts.
