Born in Lugano, Switzerland, where he trained at the ‘Centro Scolastico per l’Industria Artistica’, Mattia Bonetti moved to Paris in 1973 and began working for the textile industry and as an artist photographer. In 1979, he began working in design with Elisabeth Garouste, forming the famous ‘Garouste and Bonetti’ duo that would leave their mark on post-modern design in the 1980s and 1990s. Their work, marked by the use of craftsmanship combined with poetic and baroque inspiration, defined a new style. During the years they worked together, they created a number of interior design projects, including Christian Lacroix’s iconic Salon de Couture.
